Life Insurance

Life insurance can replace income or cover debts if you die while a policy is in force. Product type and amount are personal decisions.

Term life

Term policies pay a death benefit during a stated term if premiums are paid and the contract remains in force. They typically have no cash value. Conversion or renewal rights, if any, are defined in the policy.

Whole life

Whole life is designed to last for life when requirements are met and includes cash value. Loans and surrenders have consequences. Higher premiums relative to term reflect the longer design, not a guaranteed investment return.

Coverage considerations

A simple educational model is income replacement plus debts, education and final expenses, minus savings and existing coverage. Health, occupation, budget and how long you need coverage all sit outside that arithmetic.
