Business Insurance

Small businesses often combine general liability, professional liability, property coverage and a business owner’s policy. Needs vary by industry.

General liability

General liability (CGL) can help with certain third-party bodily injury, property damage and advertising injury claims arising from business operations. It typically does not cover professional mistakes, employee injuries (workers’ compensation) or auto accidents.

Professional liability

Professional liability, sometimes called errors and omissions (E&O), is aimed at claims that you made a mistake in professional services. It is a different insuring agreement from general liability.

Business owner’s policies and commercial property

A business owner’s policy (BOP) often packages general liability with commercial property for eligible small businesses. Commercial property coverage can apply to buildings, business personal property and, with extras, business income. Flood, cyber and employment practices usually require separate discussions.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a business insurance calculator?

Not in this version. Commercial pricing depends on class code, payroll, receipts, location and loss history in ways a simple consumer model cannot represent honestly.

Does a BOP replace workers’ compensation?

No. Workers’ compensation is a separate coverage required in most states once you have employees, with limited exceptions.
